Plex, the hugely popular media streaming app, is connecting with Google’s Daydream VR today. With a Daydream-compatible Android smartphone and the requisite headset, you’ll be able to watch movies or TV shows from any media server linked to your Plex account in virtual reality.
You will have the ability to connect with friends and family with several interactive viewing environments you can choose from, ranging from a luxurious loft apartment to a drive-in movie theater. You can invite up to three other friends to co-watch along with you. Each person has their own avatar, and you can voice chat with others by clicking the button on your Daydream remote.
I questioned posting this by the fact that who would want to listen to friends and family watching movies? Who wants to listen to someone who always has too voice their opinion on a critical character development scene? Why should the viewer care? Maybe on re-watched movies but a show or movie first experienced.
This isn't targeting people that are first time viewers, but likely to launch and be successful for all-time favorites like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Avatar.
If you want to experience this it requires a Plex Pass, but everyone will get to try it for free during their first week of using Plex VR. Once you start playing something, that content will take up “a large percentage of your visual field.” If you interested in this for long term they have monthly passes for 4.99, yearly passes for 39.99, better yet get a lifetime for 119.99 and the technology will get better, and you will have access forever!!
